The RYA Advanced Powerboat course is the pinnacle of the RYA Powerboat scheme. Its aim is to teach boat handling, pilotage and navigation up to the standards required to drive a powerboat safely by day and night in tidal coastal waters. The Advanced Powerboat certificate may also via exam be awarded the RYA/MCA Advanced Certificate of Competence and be commercially endorsed.
Minimum age 17. Candidates should be competent to the standard of the National Powerboat Certificate Level 2 (coastal) with a knowledge of navigation and chart work to the level of Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster shore-based certificate. All candidates must hold the First Aid certificate,a VHF operators certificate.
