Sailtraining aboard the traditional Tall Ship EYE OF THE WIND

Join the crew of the square rigger EYE OF THE WIND (built 1911) for a unique sail training trip. You get to experience sailing and seamanship the traditional way: operating a tall ship in a three-watch-system / manning the helm, keeping the look-out / sailor's knots, splicing, and fancy work / handling ropes and lines / operating throw lines and fenders / furling and unfurling the canvas in a "professional" way / basics of meteorology / navigation, positioning at sea, bearing, and steering the ship after nautical chart and compass / tasks of the anchor watch and harbor watch / aspects of safety at sea (individual life saving appliances, man-over-board maneuver).

Active participation in the sailing maneuvers is carried out on a voluntary basis and under the guidance of the experienced crew. All the daily work and routine operations (i.e. shopping, cooking service, cleaning) will be done by the crew. For the typical tasks of daily life on board – from scrubbing the deck to the preparation of meals – it is also true: helping hands are welcome, but your assistance is done voluntarily at any time.  Climbing harnesses which meet the necessary safety requirements will be provided for climbing up the rigging.

Experience Needed to Take this Course

Any previous sailing expertise is not necessary for your stay on board. All trips aboard the EYE OF THE WIND qualify as proof of operating experience for sailors, skippers, and engineers of traditional sailing vessels. We recommend our so-called feeder cruises and transatlantic voyages as mile building trips. Please contact us for detailed information. Find our complete itinerary at www.eyeofthewind.net/en/cruise
